Restoration of Bulgarian Citizenship
The Restoration of Bulgarian Citizenship may attract strong interest of Turkish citizens who have lost their Bulgarian citizenship in the migration processes in late 20th century. Chapter IV of the Bulgarian Citizenship Act stipulates the requirements for restoration of Bulgarian citizenship.
According to the Bulgarian Citizenship Act any person who has been released from Bulgarian citizenship, may be restored upon his or her request, provided that this person has not been convicted by enacted sentences for premeditated crime in his or her country of residence or in the Republic of Bulgaria, and does not represent a threat to the public order, ethics, health or to the national security.
The Bulgarian citizenship of a person released from it, may also be restored upon a request, provided that this person has been granted a long-term or permanent residence permit not less than 3 years prior to the application for restoration.
The descendants of Turkish citizens who have lost their Bulgarian citizenship and haven’t restored their Bulgarian citizenship, can apply for Bulgarian citizenship by origin.
What documents I have to provide to apply for restoration of Bulgarian Citizenship
- Application form;
- Birth certificate;
- Certificate of non-conviction of the Republic of Bulgaria and the country of nationality of the applicant.
- Certificate issued by the prosecution authorities that the applicant is not prosecuted for intentional offenses, if the person lives permanently in Bulgaria.
- Person of non-Bulgarian origin released from Bulgarian citizenship at his request or by emigration agreements concluded by the Republic of Bulgaria needs to present a certificate issued from the Bulgarian Interior Ministry that the applicant has permanent residence permit for at least three years before the application.
